What is a char­ter school?
A char­ter school is an inde­pen­dent pub­lic school gov­erned by a non-profit board of directors.

Where is the school located?
The school is located at 311 West 120th Street, New York, NY, 10027. The school neigh­bor­hood has a large eth­ni­cally diverse French-speaking population.

What grades are you  serv­ing? The school is cur­rently serv­ing Kinder­garten, first and sec­ond grades. We will open a third grade class next year.

Does my child have to be able to speak French to attend the school?
No, your child does not have to be able to speak French to be admit­ted. As a New York City pub­lic school, it is open to all fam­i­lies, with the unique com­mit­ment of pro­vid­ing the high­est qual­ity English-French bilin­gual edu­ca­tion inside a mul­ti­cul­tural environment.

Will bus ser­vices be pro­vided?
Yes, bus ser­vices will be pro­vided for stu­dents who qual­ify for them.

Can my child attend the school if we do not live in the school dis­trict?
Chil­dren resid­ing in the school dis­trict will receive first pri­or­ity. How­ever, if there is still space avail­able, chil­dren from other school dis­tricts will be able to apply and final admis­sion will be through a lottery.

What will be the per­cent­age of Eng­lish and French speak­ing chil­dren in the school?
The per­cent­age of Eng­lish and French speak­ing chil­dren in the school will depend on the num­ber of appli­cants from each lan­guage back­ground. How­ever, exact per­cent­ages will not be known until the school opens and all appli­ca­tions have been final­ized. There is no pre­de­ter­mined per­cent­age of French and Eng­lish speak­ing children.

Is the school free?
Yes, as a pub­lic school, the school is free.

Will there be free lunches?
Yes, there will be free lunches for all chil­dren who qual­ify accord­ing to the New York City Depart­ment of Education’s regulations.

Will the chil­dren take both Amer­i­can and French tests?
No, stu­dents will only be required to take Amer­i­can stan­dard­ized tests.

What is the teach­ing staff look like?
The ped­a­gog­i­cal staff will con­sist of highly qual­i­fied teach­ers who will teach in their native lan­guage. It will be com­prised of teach­ers from Eng­lish and French speak­ing countries.

Where do the teach­ers come from?
The teach­ers will rep­re­sent the lin­guis­tic, cul­tural, and eth­nic diver­sity of the Eng­lish and French speak­ing world.

What per­cent­age of your teach­ers are cer­ti­fied?
The major­ity of our teach­ers will be cer­ti­fied. Due to the inevitable attrac­tion of our school to highly qual­i­fied teach­ers from out­side New York State and/or the coun­try, we antic­i­pate that some of our teach­ers will not be cer­ti­fied. How­ever, as is allow­able under the law, this num­ber will not exceed 30% of our teach­ing force.

If my child is accepted, will his/her younger sib­ling also be accepted?
The sib­lings of enrolled stu­dents will be given pref­er­ence in admission.
