Prin­ci­pal

The next leader of the NYFACS must be able to demon­strate that s/he has the expe­ri­ence and exper­tise to move a school from its cur­rent sta­tus to one of high per­for­mance and suc­cess for all.

 

Edu­ca­tion and expe­ri­ence requirements

  • Master’s Degree
  • Expe­ri­ence in school lead­er­ship at the early childhood/elementary level is strongly preferred

 

Other require­ments:

  • Expe­ri­ence in urban schools is preferred
  • Excel­lent skills in oral and writ­ten English
  • Knowl­edge of oral and writ­ten French is a plus
  • Thor­ough knowl­edge of the New York school sys­tem and, in par­tic­u­lar the man­dates and require­ments of the New York Depart­ment of Edu­ca­tion relat­ing to char­ter schools
  • Knowl­edge of the French edu­ca­tional sys­tem is a plus

 

Com­mu­ni­ca­tion

  • Engages in clear, con­stant multi-directional com­mu­ni­ca­tion with the school community
  • Is com­fort­able using mul­ti­ple modal­i­ties of communication
  • Over­sees a monthly newslet­ter to be sent to fam­i­lies and uses other meth­ods of com­mu­ni­ca­tion when appropriate

 

Cur­ricu­lum imple­men­ta­tion and evaluation

  • Knowl­edge of all areas of the New York State standards
  • Facil­i­tates team work across grades and sub­ject areas
  • Imple­men­ta­tion of the Amer­i­can teach­ing meth­ods, where applicable
  • Imple­men­ta­tion of the French method of teach­ing, where applicable
  • Has prior knowl­edge of, and expe­ri­ence with, stu­dent assessments
  • Eval­u­a­tion of stu­dent learn­ing through for­ma­tive and sum­ma­tive assessments
  • Knowl­edge of the use of data to inform and improve instruction.

  • Under­stands, accepts and cel­e­brates the mis­sion of the school

  • Main­tains a pos­i­tive school tone

School/program inte­gra­tion

  • Super­vised the main­te­nance of all school records
  • Devel­ops rela­tion­ships with out­side groups or agen­cies pro­vid­ing enrich­ment activ­i­ties and sum­mer programs

 

Admin­is­tra­tion

  • Uses bud­getary and human resources in a strate­gic man­ner to meet the goals of the school
  • Sup­ports all fundraising
  • Eval­u­ates staff members
  • Super­vises admin­is­tra­tive staff

 

Board of trustees

  • Attends all meet­ings of the Board of Trustees except for those dur­ing which her/his per­for­mance is being discussed
  • Gives the Board a com­plete pic­ture of the school, its chal­lenges, prob­lems, and needs
  • Will present a dash­board with basic data to board mem­bers prior to each meeting
